PRESS RELEASE:
Asheville Regional Airport’s main phone number and one department phone number have been compromised by a vulnerability in one piece of phone equipment that services the airport.
This information became known yesterday when many local residents returned what they thought were missed calls from the airport. Caller ID showed calls from Asheville Regional Airport, and when the call was answered, the line would disconnect. Airport management and AT&T (the airport’s phone provider) investigated, and it was determined that a piece of equipment operated by the phone provider was malfunctioning and generating the calls. AT&T has identified the issue with its equipment, and a solution has been implemented.
AVL would like residents of our area to know that this issue has been occurring for approximately one week, and that we are hopeful that AT&T’s quick attention to the problem will prevent further calls from being made. We apologize for any inconvenience that has been caused, and we are glad that area residents made us aware of the issue.
The airport’s main number is 828-684-2226. If residents in the area continue to receive these types of calls, please contact the airport to report the issue.
