Asheville Boards and Commissions vacancy

Notice from City of Asheville:

Attached please find an updated flyer for current openings on the City of Asheville Boards & Commissions. It includes two NEW openings (noted as new) with a deadline of January 9 at 5 p.m. In addition, the Housing Authority seat also has a deadline of January 9, while all others previously posted have a deadline of Dec. 19, so it’s not too late!

NEW openings:

(new) DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE – (At-large seat) – (Deadline Jan. 9 at 5 p.m.) -The Design Review Committee was created to perform design review for all major works in the River District Design Review area, the Central Business District, and hotels outside of those areas. The strongest applicants will have demonstrated special interest, experience or education in architecture, historic preservation, landscape architecture, urban planning or related fields.  Preference will be given to applicants who represent at least one of the following: persons with disabilities, transit users, and/or seniors. This seat shall be a three year term, and the selected member will be eligible for a maximum of two terms. A full description of the Committee can be found here.

(new) DOWNTOWN COMMISSION – (Deadline Jan. 9 at 5 p.m.) – The Commission was established for the sustainability and continued development of downtown, a vital urban center of western North Carolina’s economic, cultural and visitor activity.  The Commission’s purposes include:  (1) recommend to City Council an overall policy for the continued development and sustainability of downtown; (2) provide recommendations for effective management of the public resources for downtown and actively pursue and assist private sector investment in the downtown area for the welfare of the citizens of Asheville; (3) carry out the powers and duties assigned to the Commission regarding downtown design review; and (4) cooperate with and evaluate and represent the recommendations of other organizations.
