Press release

Asheville Outlets is pleased to announce the installation of a Tesla Motors Supercharger station. Designed for the Model S, the Supercharger houses stations for eight vehicles and will be able to charge them in minutes versus hours. It will be located in the parking lot near the Dillard’s Clearance Center. Representatives from Asheville Outlets, Land of Sky Clean Vehicles Coalition and Blue Ridge Electric Vehicle (EV) Club will be on-site for the official ribbon cutting event, which begins at 1:30 p.m. on December 19th.

“For Tesla owners, it will make long-distance travel along the I-40 and I-26 corridors and from western North Carolina counties into Asheville possible. Amenities at the Asheville Outlets will help tourists and travelers enjoy their time while they charge,” said Joe Baum of the Blue Ridge EV Club.

Members of the Blue Ridge EV Club, an area group of plug-in electric vehicle owners and enthusiasts, will be on-site to help demonstrate how the station operates. The location at Asheville Outlets is the first Tesla Supercharger in western North Carolina, opening up the region to thousands of Tesla drivers. The charging stations are free for Tesla owners.

Tesla Motors vehicles currently have the highest electric range of any car in the world. These stations can provide energy for approximately 170 miles of range in 20 minutes, and charge to full capacity in 40 minutes.
Electric vehicles are steadily increasing in popularity in the region, leading to the need for more public charging stations. The Supercharger station will be an additional option at Asheville Outlets for EV drivers. There are already four Level Two charging stations on-site in the parking lot near the Banana Republic Factory Store. These stations are also free for shoppers who need to charge their vehicles.
