Asheville Police investigating Friday night homicide

Press release from the Asheville Police Department:

Asheville Police Department Detectives are investigating a late Friday night shooting near downtown Asheville that leaves one man dead.

APD Patrol Officers responded to Lee Garden Lane at 11:09 p.m. Friday to reports of a gunshot wound.  There they found 20-year-old Hakimye Chavares Bethea, who had been shot several times.  Buncombe County EMS arrived shortly; however, Bethea succumbed to his wounds.   His next of kin has been made aware.

Criminal Investigations Division Detectives and Forensic Technicians worked throughout the night and are actively investigating as they work through a number of leads.

Detectives are asking if anyone has any information about the shooting to send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411 or using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store).  You can also contact APD at (828) 252-1110.

This is the 11th homicide this year in the City of Asheville.
