Asheville, NC (January 26, 2015): The Asheville Police Department is now inviting Buncombe County residents to apply for the spring semester of the Citizen’s Police Academy. Classes will begin on Thursday, March 3rd and are held every Thursday from 5:30-9:00 for 14 consecutive weeks.
The Citizens Police Academy is a free course that provides citizens with insight into the philosophies, policies and guiding principles of law enforcement and the ethical conduct governing police services in the community. It gives citizens an appreciation for the problems and challenges facing law enforcement and an opportunity to offer comments, ideas and solutions.
The course consists of basic classroom instruction, presentations and demonstrations on topics such as criminal investigations, use of force, defensive tactics and departmental structure. Participants will also be able to participate in a ride along with a patrol officer.
