Asheville Police release Aston Park protest body cam footage

Press release from the Asheville Police Department:

These videos are body-worn camera footage from multiple police officers who responded to the demonstration, after the park closure, on the night of December 25, 2021. Six people were arrested that night for 2nd Degree Trespassing. Some were charged with resisting arrest.

Activists dumped thousands of pounds of garbage in Aston Park during a protest which they described as a family art event. The abandoned property included furniture, a kitchen sink, and tires, among many other items.

“The ACLU requested the video, and we willingly complied, said Chief David Zack.

Following the incident and a two-month investigation, detectives charged 16 with Felony Littering and Aid & Abet Felony Littering for illegally dumping over 2,000 pounds of items into the park.

Progressives in Asheville are just slathering at the thought of ‘catching APD’ doing something they don’t agree with. All these tapes prove is we have a lot of very rude people who live in Asheville and just want to do whatever they want. Using Ms. Cantrells slogan of ‘Where do we go’? ‘And this is my home. ‘Most packed up their protest tent, jumped in their vehicles and went to their homes after being asked many many times. While others chose to be rude and obnoxious. I didnt realised top quality reporters actually work as hairdresses during the week, then switch careers when they feel like some good old fun after hours. Good thing some of them have decided to take their skills to a new city. Good luck on the next stop.
