Asheville Regional Airport reports record-breaking passenger counts in May

Press release from Asheville Regional Airport:

The Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) has been one of the fastest growing airports in the country for 18 consecutive months — and the growth is continuing!

May numbers indicate the highest monthly passenger counts in the history of the airport. In total, AVL served 143,695 passengers in the month of May. First quarter passenger numbers were up 45 percent compared to last year, and May 2019 numbers were up 46 percent from May 2018.

“The airport’s growth has been unprecedented, and we can see that momentum continuing each month,” said Lew Bleiweis, A.A.E, Executive Director. “Our region’s travelers have been committed to utilizing their local airport. Moreover, Asheville has become a bustling tourist destination, and airlines have responded by adding seats to the market.”

“The Asheville Regional Airport’s success is because our region has attracted new economic partners, and the residents of Western North Carolina have committed to use local air service for business and leisure,” said Matthew Burril, Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority Board Chair. “The airport staff and members of the Airport Authority Board thank all of the community for supporting their local airport.”
