Asheville to resume in-person boards and commissions meetings in August

Press release from the City of Asheville:

In anticipation of the lifting of the Governor’s State of Emergency due to COVID-19, the city of Asheville is preparing to return to in-person board and commission meetings. The State of Emergency is slated to be lifted Friday, July 30.
The city acted swiftly last year to find ways to continue serving the community by going to remote meetings, as was authorized under the State of Emergency. Without the State of Emergency, the city will no longer have the authority to conduct remote-only meetings.

Committees with quasi-judicial functions may begin holding in-person meetings in July. These committees are:

  • Planning and Zoning Commission
  • Historic Resources Commission
  • Board of Adjustment
All other boards and commissions, including Council committee meetings, will resume in-person meetings in August. Persons wishing to speak live at the meetings will be required to attend in person. To accommodate those who do not yet feel secure attending in person, or those who are precluded from attending because of schedules or other personal factors, the boards and commissions will continue to accept remote comments via email or voicemail as long as they are received by 5 p.m. the day prior to the meeting.

All City Council and Council committee meetings will continue to be livestreamed and can be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel.

A public notice of all regular meetings may be found HERE, as well as on the city’s Boards & Commissions website.
