Asheville transit system suspended at 2 p.m. Saturday ahead of storm

Press release from the city of Asheville:

With a Winter Storm Warning predicting multiple inches of snow in Asheville Saturday through Monday, ART bus will suspend transit service at 2 p.m. today.

This will give the buses time to come out of service before major road safety hazards occur.

“Our goal is always to keep our buses running and on schedule, but we need to balance that with ensuring the safety of our passengers and drivers, particularly in snow or icy road situations,” said Transportation Assistant Director Jessica Morriss.

Once roads are safe for the buses, service will resume as quickly as possible.

The City of Asheville encourages all riders to get up-to-date information about ART service alerts through our multiple channels of information access, as follows:

  •         Check ART’s recently launched new Transit App or Google Maps.
  •         Dial 828-253-5691 and press #1.
  •         Subscribe to iRide Service Alert e-mails here.
  •         Go to RideTheART.com under “Service Alerts.”
  •         Follow the City of Asheville Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

ART currently operates 17 vehicles in its peak fleet and serves primarily the City of Asheville with some service that extends to Black Mountain. Service is currently provided from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
