Press release from the Asheville Waldorf School:
The Asheville Waldorf School will celebrate Waldorf education’s 100th anniversary on Thursday, Sept. 19, by performing a singing flash mob at the West Asheville Tailgate Market. Our hope is to share our voices and bring joy to the broader Asheville community. This will be a kick-off event for the centennial celebration. We will also hold a Community Potluck and School Garden Blessing on Sept. 19 at 5:45 p.m. at our 531 Haywood Rd location. Finally, on Sunday, Sept. 22, we will perform a second flash mob downtown near Pack Square at 2:00 p.m. with violin and eurythmy. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate.
Waldorf Education founder Rudolf Steiner formed the first Waldorf school in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1919. Today, there are over 1,100 Waldorf schools and almost 2,000 Waldorf kindergartens in 80 countries around the globe.
In celebration of Waldorf education’s centennial, Asheville Waldorf School joins other schools worldwide engaging in social and environmental impact projects. The higher aim is to regionally and internationally create a vital interconnectedness essential in today’s world. By bringing our voices into our community, planting our new School Garden project, and establishing an Earth Stewardship focus to our overall Strategic Plan, we at Asheville Waldorf School aim to stimulate dialogue around human values in education and support initiatives that revitalize society and our relationship with each other and our earth.
Partners in this endeavor include the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, Waldorf Early Childhood of Association of North America, and The Alliance for Public Waldorf Education.
