Asheville Symphony announces winners in its Young Artist Competition

“The Asheville Symphony is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Young Artist Competition. The competition took place on Saturday, March 24, with 19 applicants ages 10 to 17 competing. Applicants were invited from a 23-county area of Western North Carolina.

First place: Grace Kim, flute, Concertina, “Opus 107” by Chaminade.

Second place: Ayano Annis, piano, “Concerto No. 2, Andante Sostenuto” by Saint-Saens.

Third place: Chambers Loomis, piano, “Concerto No. 1 in E flat” by Liszt.

First Runner-up: Berrac Appolis, violin, “Concerto in C, Opus 48” by Kabalevsky.

Second Runner-up: Adair Brooks, violin, “Concerto No. 3 in B Minor” by Saint-Saens.

The five top place winners of the Asheville Symphony Young Artist Competition will be performing for the public in a free concert on Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church at 789 Merrimon Ave, Asheville NC 28804. An ice-cream sundae reception will follow the concert and all audience members are invited to attend and meet the winners.”
