According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, The city public transit system — having struggled for years to meet rising resident expectations — is set to begin a sweeping overhaul.
Shorter wait times and more direct routes are planned in the first stage of upgrades to a system that gives 1.5 million rides a year, city officials said Monday.
Changes are set to begin in mid- to late May.
The overhaul is based on studies of routes and rider surveys from 2008 and 2009, showing that passengers, among other things, wanted more frequent bus service, said Julie Mayfield, chairwoman of the city Transit Commission.
