Best Kept Secret in Western NC: Hanging Dog for Leaf Viewing

MURPHY, N.C., Sept. 17, 2014 – The U.S. Forest Service invites visitors to take in fall’s splendor at the Hanging Dog Recreation Area.

Providing year-round access to Hiwassee Lake, Hanging Dog Recreation Area will soon be ablaze in fall’s splendor. A popular place for fishing and boating, visitors will find plenty of places along Hiwassee’s 180-mile shore to relax and cast a line. From June through October, visitors can launch motor boats from the ramp at the end of State Road (SR) 1447. Hike or mountain bike on the moderately-difficult Ramsey Bluff Mountain Biking System that provides 8 miles of trails.
