Here’s the press release from the Blue Ridge Rollergirls:
On August 2, 2014, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls (#41) will face Demolition City Roller Derby (#60) at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. The first bout will begin at 6 p.m., and the second bout will begin at 8 p.m. Both the Blue Ridge All Stars and the Blue Ridge French Broads will battle the teams from Evansville, Indiana in a fight sure to thrill loyal and new fans of the growing sport of roller derby.
Blue Ridge competes in this bout with the knowledge that they have already qualified for the 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Sacramento, California, Sept. 5-7, as the #10 seed. The tournament seeding reflects the June 30 WFTDA rankings, which were based on sanctioned games played through that date.
The roller derby league features a charity at every bout, and this month, the featured charity is Eblen-Kimmel Charities, who will be receiving 10% of the proceeds from this bout.The league will also be collecting school supplies for Eblen Charities to distribute to school children in need in the Buncombe County area.
