From the Black Mountain News:
Montreat board approves new town hall location
Town to move forward with Florida Terrace
by Fred McCormick
By a vote of 4 – 1, the Town of Montreat Board of Commissioners approved three lots on Florida Terrace as the site for the construction of the new town hall. Following months of controversy surrounding the selected location, the board rejected an amendment that would have effectively started the process of researching an alternative site, on property that is currently Pratt Park.
The site on Florida Terrace was purchased by the town in late 2013, following a search for an appropriate site that lasted for seven years. Some residents of the town began expressing opposition to the three adjacent lots in April, after town officials agreed to hire an architecture firm, Architectural Design Studio, to proceed with a building design for a town hall. A large, organized group of Montreat property owners emerged, known as The Montreaters For A New Town Hall In A Better Location, and encouraged the board of commissioners to look at property elsewhere.
