Buncombe County Schools Foundation (BCSF), the non-profit organization created to enhance and support scholarships, programs and vital projects for Buncombe County Schools, launched a new identity and showcased its newly renovated Bookmobile on Monday at Valley Springs Middle School. The event, a Parade of Progress celebrating literacy and learning, included special recognitions, the unveiling of the organization’s new brand and Bookmobile, and remarks from local dignitaries. Students, educators and civic leaders will now be part of a new campaign encouraging local donors and corporate partners to get involved under the new BCSF tagline, “Learning Without Limits.”
“Buncombe County Schools Foundation is proud to launch our new brand as we plan to expand our current scholarship programs and help connect education with workforce development. We want to provide opportunities for our students so they will graduate ready for college, career and community. The Foundation’s goal is to ensure that ALL students have the same opportunities to learn. We want to help create brighter futures by providing the human, financial and support resources that are needed to make this happen,” said Christy Cheek, Executive Director of the Buncombe County Schools Foundation.
Since 1984, the Buncombe County Schools Foundation has offered a wide variety of scholarships, grants and innovative programs for students and in support of staff throughout the system’s forty-five schools. BCSF is funded by parents, neighbors, friends, businesses and community sponsors. Donations support a range of offerings that encourage happy, healthy learning, long-term creativity and curiosity, and the cultivation of a new generation of workers and leaders for Western North Carolina.
Among BCSF’s current projects is a newly renovated Bookmobile, which provides easily accessible reading opportunities to young children throughout the community.
“Reading and literacy are the keys to success in today’s world. As children develop their reading skills, school takes on a new meaning,” said Cheek. The Bookmobile ensures a positive start, which is key to a child’s successful school and work life. Having a mobile classroom on wheels, where students in all communities can have access to the resources they need, is crucial for every child and his or her family. Programs such as Ready Rosie and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library enhances these opportunities as well.
Looking forward, the Foundation staff and board are exploring new and improved ways to reach out to the community and encourage greater participation in supporting our students. The future depends on it.
