From press release:
Dr. Tony Baldwin, zuperintendent of zchools, announced Wednesday that all Buncombe County Schools will be operating on a two-hour delay Jan. 8.
This decision comes as weather forecasts are predicting lows approaching 5 degrees Wednesday morning and wind chills below zero.
“The fact is we transport approximately 17,000 students across Buncombe County every day. This delay will better ensure that students will be safer and a bit warmer waiting for their buses in the morning,” Baldwin said. “The delay also helps support a more effective bus start-up because as temperatures drop into the single digits, our transportation department personnel need that additional time to get the buses started and on the road.”
Baldwin said that appropriate school officials will continually monitor weather conditions throughout the early morning tomorrow. The superintendent added that further announcements could be made should changing weather conditions warrant.
