Buncombe Sheriff Quentin Miller issues statement on enhanced security plan for Inauguration Day

Statement from Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller:

I understand that many of you are concerned because of the incident in Washington DC on January 6th. But you can be assured that as your Sheriff, I am committed to the safety of our government employees and our government facilities in Asheville and throughout Buncombe County.

Last week members of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office participated in a briefing offered by the FBI to determine if there were any specific threats to our community. We have communicated directly with other federal and states agencies for potential threats to our area as well. The Sheriff’s Office is not aware of any specific threats for Buncombe County related to Inauguration Day.

The Sheriff’s Office, the Asheville Police Department, the US Marshall’s Service and other local law enforcement agencies have agreed on an enhanced community security plan. So, if you notice heightened presences at the courthouse and other city and county locations, please do not become alarmed. These are precautions we believe we should take.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is committed to doing everything we can to keep our wonderful community safe.
