Carolina Abortion Fund rolls out second annual Bowl-a-Thon West fundraiser

Press release from Carolina Abortion Fund:
The Carolina Abortion Fund is the state’s only volunteer-run nonprofit that provides direct funding for abortions in North Carolina. CAF makes small grants to individuals to cover a portion of the cost of their abortion care, as this is a services that is not covered by NC Medicaid, Tricare (military insurance) and, due to recent legislation, is restricted from being covered by all plans being sold in the healthcare marketplace in North Carolina.  As one in three women will have an abortion in their lifetimes, and the cost of this safe and legal procedure is approximately $450, CAF believes that this healthcare service should not be limited or denied because of an individual’s ability to pay.

CAF, like many other abortion funds who participate with the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) raises most of its operating budget by hosting an annual fundraiser: the Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon.  This year, CAF is hosting two fundraising bowling events, one in the Triangle on April 24th, and one in Asheivlle on April 17th.  Bowl-a-Thon West is Asheville’s second bowl-a-thon and this year CAF is excited about having greater participation and more support from the community in the western part of the state. These two events alone constitute 80% of CAF’s annual budget and 95% of funds raised go directly to fund abortion.
To participate in Bowl-a-Thon West, individuals should sign up to bowl, either individually, or as a team at bit.ly/bowlathonwest2016. Bowlers are encouraged to set their own personalized fundraising goals. The day of the event CAF will celebrate all of the great work that our community has put forth to strike down barriers to abortion restrictions. This year, CAF supporters from WNC will be celebrating in style with lots of costumes, fun team names, prizes for winning participants, and a real live honky tonk band that will be playing in the bowling alley! For more information about this event or CAF’s work in general, please see our website at www.carolinaabortionfund.org.  For direct help with abortion funding, CAF’s 24-hour helpline can be reached at 855-518-4603.
