Charles George VA receives new van from Shelby and Cleavland DAV members

From the press release:

CHARLES GEORGE VA MEDICAL CENTER, Asheville, N.C. – A van, valued at about $32,000 will be donated at 2 p.m. this afternoon to the Charles George VA Medical Center by members of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18 in Shelby, and the Cleveland County, (N.C.) Veterans Council.

The van will be used to pick up and transport Veterans who can no longer drive, from a central point in Shelby on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Veterans will also get a ride home in the van.

The donation is made possible by the members of Disabled American Veterans who raise and handle all the money. The donated money is sent to the national DAV headquarters which then buys new vehicles from the Ford Motor Company. The process takes about a year to complete.

The vehicle will be donated with the signing of a formal agreement between the Charles George VA Medical Center and the DAV in front of the Medical Center’s Community Living Center, 1100 Tunnel Road in Asheville.
