Child care therapist brings holiday celebration to hurricane-affected families Saturday, Dec. 14

News release from the National Emergency Child Care Network:

Hive Mind Therapy, led by Sherree Turcott, LCSW, in collaboration with National Emergency Child Care Network and Asheville City Schools is proud to host a community event on Saturday, December 14th to bring comfort and joy to families affected by the recent hurricane. With the generous support of community partners, Sherree and her team have prepared 400 therapeutic comfort boxes and gathered over 1,000 additional giveaways to support children and families in need. With other event contributors, the event is expected to hand-out over 900 comfort kits to families in the local area.

The event will take place at Hall Fletcher Elementary School from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and promises to be a day filled with connection, joy, and holiday spirit.

Highlights of the Event:

  • Free Therapeutic Comfort Boxes for children.
  • Giveaways including comfort bags, children’s books, and more.
  • Activities for the Whole Family – games, crafts, and music.
  • Holiday Shopping featuring local artisans and small businesses.
  • A holiday meal to bring comfort, joy and warmth to families.

National Emergency Child Care Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free emergency child care to families in a disaster or crisis, helping over 43 families and 69 children in western North Carolina with emergency child care.

This event is not just for families but also offers opportunities for local vendors and volunteers to participate.

Vendor Opportunities:
Local businesses and organizations can reserve free vendor space to promote and sell their products/services while engaging the community with a simple game, craft, activity, or giveaway at their table.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers are needed to assist with event setup, cleanup, and activity stations. This is a meaningful way to give back and help create a day of joy and connection for families in need.

“We’ve seen the incredible strength and resilience of our community in the wake of the hurricane,” said Sherree Turcott. “As a mom in West Asheville and someone deeply passionate about supporting children and families, I am grateful to collaborate with Asheville City Schools and National Emergency Child Care Network on this event to bring hope, joy, and resources to those who need them most.”

How to Get Involved:

Join us on December 14th to spread cheer, support local businesses, and make a difference in the lives of families in our community. Together, we can help our neighbors heal and thrive.
