Citizen-Times: Mayor Bellamy won’t run for Congress

From the Asheville Citizen-Times:

ASHEVILLE — Mayor Terry Bellamy said she has changed her mind and will not run for Congress again.

Bellamy, who is wrapping up eight years as mayor of Asheville, announced in February that she would not run for re-election but would instead pursue the 10th Congressional District seat held by Patrick McHenry, R-Lake James, in 2014. Now Bellamy said she wants to concentrate on finishing her master’s degree and weighing other options.

“I thought I was going to run for Congress, but I graduate in May, and that meant I would have to postpone that, and I don’t want to,” Bellamy said. “I’ve been asked to run for another office, but I’m going to take a little time off.”
