City of Asheville announces Ben Woody to serve as Assistant City Manager

Asheville City Manager, Debra Campbell, is pleased to announce that Ben Woody, who has served as the Interim Assistant City Manager since June, has accepted the position of Assistant City Manager.
Ben will carry out administrative duties while also assisting the City Manager with the direction and coordination of activities of assigned City department directors, as well as a variety of general administrative tasks and special projects. As one of two Assistant City Managers for the City of Asheville, Ben will be responsible for supporting and directing various aspects and phases of municipal operations, assisting in the preparation, maintenance, administration of the budget, and providing  support to the following departments: Park and Recreation, Sustainability, Development Services, Transportation, Water and Public Works.
“The City of Asheville appreciates the vast skills and knowledge our staff brings to each department and position. We are dedicated to providing employees the opportunity to grow their careers and take new challenges within the organization,” stated City Manager Debra Campbell.
We are pleased to select a candidate from within the organization as our Assistant City Manager. Ben’s knowledge of the organization, proven track record of bringing teams together to effectively solve challenging problems and his existing relationships in the community, with the City Council, and with City staff will serve as a major asset in the City Manager’s Office.
Ben joined the City in 2017 as Director of the Development Services Department. He has extensive   knowledge in local government with a career spanning 25 years. During that time,  Ben has served as a Senior Planner with the City of Greensboro and also as a director for Planning and Inspections for Currituck County.

An Interim Director of Asheville’s Development Services team will be named soon, followed by a selection process for Director.
