City of Asheville Broadway Public Safety Station awarded LEED gold

News release from the City of Asheville:

The City of Asheville announced today that the Broadway Public Safety Station has been awarded LEED Gold. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.

The Broadway Public Safety Station achieved LEED Gold for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. One of those features includes generation of onsite renewable energy. Additional features of the building that contributed to LEED Gold certification are outlined and summarized in this memo shared with the Sustainable Advisory Committee.

The pursuit of this certification supports City Council’s 2036 vision for a clean and healthy environment and a number of the City’s sustainability goals.

This is the second LEED-certified project the City of Asheville has been awarded, the first being phase one of the Dr. Wesley Grant Southside Community Center.
