From a Press Release:

Community garden conference October 25 in Asheville, NC

The annual conference of the North Carolina Community Garden Partners (NCCGP) offers unique learning and networking opportunities for North Carolina’s growing number of community gardeners. The organization’s 2014 gathering – Growing Garden Connections – will take place Saturday, October 25, in the Sherrill Center on the UNC Asheville campus.

“This is a once-a-year chance to learn, share, and network with other passionate community garden leaders in our state at a very reasonable cost,” says Alison Duncan with NC Cooperative Extension. “Educational sessions will cover a variety of community garden topics, so you’ll be sure to leave with new information, new skills and new friends. You don’t want to miss it!”

The conference will feature speakers on topics ranging from controlling pests to community-wide organizing, a tour of community and student garden projects on the UNCA campus, a delicious lunch with local ingredients, and a raffle with garden-inspired items. Diana McCall, Garden Supervisor for the Town of Black Mountain, is chairperson for the event.

NCCGP is a statewide organization that works to support and strengthen community gardening efforts across North Carolina. Lisa Valdivia, NCCGP Board Chair, is an Extension Associate with the Cooperative Extension Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. This will be NCCGP’s third annual conference. Community gardens and related projects are booming across North Carolina, in both rural and urban areas. NCCGP provides a way for community gardeners and organizers to throughout the state to network together and learn from one another.

The event begins at 8:30 AM and lasts until 5 PM. Tickets are $15 for NCCGP members and $20 for non-members and can be purchased through Eventbrite at http://goo.gl/LFNsZ1. Although a limited number of tickets may be available at the door, advance purchase is recommended since past conferences have sold out.
