Press release from city of Asheville:
The first public workshop to gather input on the Comprehensive Plan update will be held October 10 at the Collider, located at 1 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville. The Comprehensive Plan is the community’s vision for the future of Asheville. This exciting process will determine key principles that will guide the City’s decision-making for the next 15 to 20 years, so hearing input from residents representing Asheville’s diverse population is vital. The workshop will run in an open house style from 4 pm to 8 pm so that citizens can drop in at their convenience and spend as little or as much time as they like.
There will be an opportunity to mingle with other community members and visit various stations set up to gather input on the major themes of the plan. The consultants will make two identical presentations – one from 5:15 to 5:30 pm and one from 6:45 to 7 pm – to give an overview of the process and explain exactly what a comprehensive plan is and why community input is so important. A separate station will provide similar information throughout the workshop for those residents who are not able to attend either of the presentations.
Project Manager Stacy Merten said, “The City of Asheville’s Planning and Urban Design Department staff are excited to be working with Skidmore Owings and Merrill on the Comprehensive Plan Update. We are all looking forward to this initial public workshop and welcome the community to participate in the planning process.” Light refreshments will be provided.
