Community Foundation of Henderson County announces scholarships for 2014

Community Foundation of Henderson County

Community Foundation of Henderson County is seeking applicants for 70 scholarships available to award for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Applicants may review scholarship descriptions and access and download scholarship applications in the guidance offices of the local public and private high schools and by visiting www.CFHCforever.org/scholarships. This year, the Community Foundation is offering scholarships in a fillable PDF format which can be downloaded, saved and submitted electronically. Call the Community Foundation at (828) 697-6224 with questions.

The deadline for submitting scholarship applications is on or before 5 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2014. Scholarships are open to students pursuing community college, college or university degrees. Scholarships are primarily for students who are graduating or have graduated from high schools within Henderson County, N.C., and include home school and private school graduates. Criteria for the scholarships vary. The scholarships range in award amounts and generally are categorized by financial need, academics, affiliation and field of study or place of study. Interviews are conducted by a volunteer scholarship committee and will begin in April.

More than 1,000 students have received assistance through the Community Foundation’s scholarship program. Thanks to the generosity of Community Foundation donors, more than $4.4 million has been available for academic scholarships since 1984.

Since its founding in 1982, Community Foundation of Henderson County has been helping people who care make lasting contributions to causes that matter. The Community Foundation accepts gifts from individuals, families, businesses and organizations to create a pool of charitable dollars from which grants are awarded to address community needs. This past fiscal year, the Community Foundation received more than $3.6 million in contributions, had more than $77.6 million in assets and awarded more than $2.49 million in grants to nonprofits and scholarship recipients.
