Disclaimer Comedy presents Petey’s Playhouse Comedy Showcase, Sept. 26

Comedian Herbie Gill, who has appeared on on XM Radio, Comcast Cable, TBS’ Daily Riff, PBS, Gilda’s Club, and Local Point TV for ABC, headlines Petey’s Playhouse Comedy Showcase at the Southern Lounge Saturday, Sept. 26.

Press release from event organizers:

Disclaimer Comedy presents Petey’s Playhouse Comedy Showcase, featuring headliner Herbie Gill, Saturday at 8 pm September 26 at the Southern Lounge on Lexington in downtown Asheville. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Headliner Herbie Gill is a comedian who learned from the best and seeks to blaze his own path in comedy. Changing expectations and skewing stereotypes, this young comic can finesse any crowd with professionalism, style and wit. Herbie’s hard work and knack for presenting fresh new material earned him appearances on XM Radio, Comcast Cable, TBS’ Daily Riff, PBS, Gilda’s Club, and Local Point TV for ABC. With a shining personality, excellent stage presence and hilarious material, it’s easy to see that Herbie’s comedy stock is rising.

The showcase also features performances by local and Greenville comics: Carrie Adams and Tom Emmons of Greenville; Macon Clark, Gabe Rosenberg, Ryan Maslow, and Nick Taylor of Asheville.

Carrie Adams grew up in Seattle, WA where she developed both a fear of Bigfoot and Seasonal Affective Disorder. After discovering Southern California and sunshine, she attended USC Film School. Upon graduating she made her parents proud by moving to South Carolina and transitioning into the lucrative manual labor industry. Given a marked absence of any marketable skills, she did the only thing she could do – become a stand-up comedian. She lives in Greenville, SC, where she is a member of No Expectations Comedy and produces comedy shows like it’s her job. Her first novel, Ruthless, was published by Simon & Schuster this summer. It’s not funny but she says you should definitely buy it.

Tom Emmons is a goat farmer who likes hitchhiking, logic, and pets. He suffers from Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Opthamalic Outburst Syndrome. Starting comedy at a young age seemed only natural, but was rapidly stifled due to Ritalin. Upon graduating from college (at the tender age of 27 with a B.S. in General Studies) he was sure that his life had the pinpoint focus required for success. He’s a co-founder of No Expectations Comedy and has performed at Laugh Your Asheville Off, Laughing Devil Comedy Fest in NYC, and Orlando Indie Comedy Fest. Enjoy a trip to the bizarre with Tom’s preposterous observations and musings. Be peachy.

Ryan Maslow, a costume designer and illustrator, will shock and delight you with a full hand of ridiculous persona. He is the killer queer responsible for Asheville’s most dangerous drag queen: Abhorra and her crimes against fashion and humanity. Abhorra has held such titles as: Miss Bridge Troll 2014, Miss Banned for Life (Scandals) 2013, 2014, and 2015 consecutively, and hopefully Miss Honey Boo 2015 (if security doesn’t recognize her). Scrutiny has been placed on her in the pageant scene, which is why she has taken to comedy as her last clutching grasp at the spotlight.

Abhorra is but one among many slap-dash caricatures in Ryan’s repertoire. Known to pull an impression or two, but no more than three, he has impersonated such beloved icons as: Taylor Swift, Caitlyn Jenner, and, of course, Alan Rickman.

Nick Taylor moved from the New York City area by way of rehab, and has since embraced Asheville as his home. Before pursuing stand up comedy, Nick competed in Toastmasters public speaking events and was a finalist in the 2013 District 37 Humorous Speech Contest. Nick is the kid you wrote off in high school thinking he was too weird. However, when listening to him, it’s evident that he’s interesting, misunderstood, random, and he thinks differently.

Peter Smith-McDowell (Petey) is the show’s host. Petey has preformed from New York to Miami, to his hometown of Asheville. He has opened for Rory Scovel, Trevor Noah, Nick Thune, Sean Patton, and Hannibal Burress.

No data is available for Macon Clark and Gabe Rosenberg, because they are holographic comedians who exist only when their light projections manifest on stage

Disclaimer Comedy’s Petey’s Place showcase is part of an ongoing series aimed at bringing great comedy and comedians to Asheville.
