CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke Energy has named Jason Walls as district manager in the company’s Asheville area.
He succeeds Martha Thompson, who has been named director, Corporate Public Affairs, based in Raleigh.
In his new role, Walls will oversee and promote Duke Energy’s community relations efforts in Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties. His duties include working with local leaders, elected officials and community members on regional issues and initiatives.

Newton, state president, Duke Energy North Carolina. “Jason’s variety of experience with the company and knowledge of the business will enable him to build upon those partnerships and further strengthen our relationship with our customers.”Walls joined Duke Energy in 2002 as an associate scientist for the company’s hydroelectric relicensing efforts along the Tuckaseegee, Nantahala and Catawba-Wateree river systems. Over his career, he has held several responsibilities in the company’s corporate communications department.
Walls holds Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Emory and Henry College, Emory, Va., and a Master of Arts in organizational communications from Queens University in Charlotte. He is married to Monica Rickman Walls and they have two sons. Jason and his family are moving to the Asheville area.
