Press release from Filipino-American Community of Western North Carolina:
The Filipino-American community of Western North Carolina (FAC-WNC) celebrates Filipino American History month with the event, “Mabuhay Blue Ridge”, set for October 25th at the South Buncombe Library in Asheville. The Filipino-Community welcomes its neighbors to share in this event that will include presentations on the history of the Filipino community in Western North Carolina, cultural presentations and literary readings.
Filipino-American History month was established by the Filipino-American National Historical Society in 1991 to honor the contributions of Filipino-Americans in all aspects of American life. Filipino Americans are the fastest growing Asian American group with a population of more than 2 million. Filipino-American History month is designated as Filipino-American History month to recognize the first Filipinos to arrive in the US in Moro Bay on October 18, 1587 as part of the Manila Galleon Trade.
The Filipino Community has been in Western North Carolina for 50 years. Ten original families established roots in the area and has grown to several hundred who participate and contribute to the cultural fabric of Western North Carolina.
“Mabuhay Blue Ridge” takes place 6-8pm on October 25th at the South Buncombe Library. For more information, call Virginia Rodriguez at 828-230-8847
Going to be starting construction of my stepson and (Filipino) daughter-in-laws home on a 19 acre permaculture farm outside of Ellenboro NC. I need a helper. Having lived in and been raised in 6 countries, I always appreciated finding a small group of N. Americans to have as friends that had similar culture and spoke my native language and am hoping to find a worker to help me build the home that is Filipino so that my daughter-in-law can enjoy the same. If this sight can put me in touch with people in the Filipino/American community in that area it would be much appreciated. The ideal situation would be to have a helper for the construction that is Filipino. Thank you so much. John Wadman
