Press release from Brevard Academy:

A live and silent auction to benefit a new playground for Brevard Academy: A Challenge Foundation Academy will be held on Saturday, June 4 at The Lumberyard, 170 King St. in Brevard.  Gates will open at 11:30 a.m.  The silent auction will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and the live auction will begin at 1:00 p.m.   Entrance is free.

The auctions will include items in a variety of price ranges, everything from antique furniture to pottery, woodwork, sculpture and paintings by local artists.  Many packages will be auctioned off, including a dinner for six prepared by local chef Jaime Hernandez, a vacation house at Myrtle Beach, a weekend stay at a home in Connestee Falls,  and a two-week session at Camp Kahdalea or Chosatonga. The auction also will feature bicycles, a kayak, a tent and camping gear, Adirondack chairs from the White Squirrel Shoppe, and a drone from OP Taylor’s. Gift certificates for many local businesses, including two $300 dining packages, and tickets for the Mountain Song Festival in the coveted sponsor seating area also will be on the block.

Music will be provided by BA Music Director Derrick Gardner and friends, including BA students and community musicians. Food and drink, including beer from Oskar Blues and gelato from Kiwi Gelato, will be available for purchase.

Raffle tickets also will be available for purchase to win a $500 shopping spree at Ingles Supermarket.  Raffle tickets are $10; the drawing for the prize will occur during the silent auction.

Brevard Academy is planning to raise $50,000 for an Everyone’s Beanstalk Playground.  The playground’s design appeals to children of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs.  Possible playground features include adventure ropes, netting, rock-climbing elements, slides and activities for all ages.

Brevard Academy will move to its new campus at 1110 Hendersonville Hwy, Pisgah Forest, this summer in anticipation of the opening of the 2016-17 school year, Sept. 6.
