Press release
From PARI:
Area girls ages 9-14 are invited to a SciGirls program Tuesday, April 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the PARI campus. Co-hosted with the Transylvania County 4-H, this month’s activity is “Pedal Power.”
“This month the SciGirls will have a fun, healthy challenge: navigating a bicycle course around a section of the PARI campus,” said PARI Education Director Christi Whitworth. “We will be using bicycles with multiple gears and we will challenge the girls to calculate and test gear ratios to complete the course in the shortest amount of time. This event will be held rain or shine, so we encourage all girls ages 9-14 to join us. Prior participation in SciGirls is not required.”
The monthly SciGirls programs are co-hosted by PARI and Transylvania County 4-H, and affiliated with the national effort to engage girls in science sponsored by Twin Cities Public Television.
SciGirls events are typically scheduled each month during the school year. The participation fee is $10 per student. Program details, specific hours and registration details can be found on the PARI web site, www.pari.edu. Participants can register at www.pari.edu/programs/students/scigirls. Area teachers and parents are asked to encourage girls who may be interested. The national SciGirls web site is pbskids.org/scigirls.
