Grand opening of new turf fields at Buncombe County Sports Park set for July 12

Press release from Buncombe County:

Buncombe County Parks and Recreation is thrilled to announce the grand opening of three new turf fields at the Buncombe County Sports Park in Western Buncombe County. This exciting event will take place on fields 1 and 2 on July 12 from 6-7 p.m. at the Buncombe County Sports Park at 58 Apac Circle in Asheville. The entire community is invited to join us for a family-friendly ribbon-cutting celebration that includes sports clinics, giveaways, shaved ice, and more.

Buncombe County Parks & Recreation received a grant from the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority to make improvements at the Buncombe County Sports Complex in Enka in 2019. The project, Enka Recreation Destination, included installing synthetic turf and sports lighting on three soccer fields. Due to the pandemic, construction did not begin until April 2022. This portion of the project is now complete.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the official unveiling of the state-of-the-art turf fields. Local officials, commissioners, and community leaders will also be participating in this special moment, showcasing our collective commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities in Buncombe County.

In addition to the ribbon-cutting, the event will feature an array of activities and clinics designed to engage people of all ages. From soccer to ultimate frisbee to lacrosse, participants will have the opportunity to explore and partake in short clinics related to these sports. Thefestivities will also include a shaved ice truck, offering a delightful treat to beat the summer heat. Join us in savoring a refreshing shaved ice while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the park.

“This grand opening event represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide exceptional recreational facilities for the community,” said Allison Dains, Parks and Recreation director. “We are delighted to showcase the new turf fields, recognize key supporters such as the Board of Commissioners and the TDA who helped make this project a reality. We hope that community members will come out to celebrate the addition of the turf fields and to enjoy this community and regional asset.”

Buncombe County Parks & Recreation is hosting this event with the support of community stakeholders including ABYSA (Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association, CESA (Carolina Elite Soccer Academy), Empire Lacrosse and WNC Ultimate Frisbee.
