GreenWorks’ Second Annual Trashion Show and Environmental Excellence Awards

Press release from Oh, Henry Events:

Asheville GreenWorks, a local environmental nonprofit, will host the Environmental Excellence Awards and Trashion Show on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 6pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville-Biltmore on 115 Hendersonville Road in Asheville, NC 28803.

The Trashion Show is a recycled fashion show featuring over a dozen local designers who create one of a kind wearable fashion made from items headed to the landfill or that have served their purpose and reached the end of their life.

For over 30 years, GreenWorks has presented Environmental Excellence Awards to honor local individuals, organizations and businesses making a difference for our environment. A committee comprised of representatives from several environmental organizations select award recipients in categories including Youth, Education, Community Partner and Business. The Susan B. Roderick Lifetime Achievement Award goes to an individual who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to environmental conservation.

Awards and Trashion Show guests will be treated to an glamorous evening of awards and fashion inspired by love for the environment. The theme of this year’s show is Plastic. Asheville GreenWorks has partnered with the Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, who will be performing selections from “Death By Plastic” during the event. Local marketing company Gigantic is sponsoring the creation of the set design, made entirely of recyclable plastic material. Guest speaker, Crystal Dreisbach, founder of Don’t Waste Durham, will also make an appearance to share her work on Green To Go initiative to reduce plastic waste materials in restaurants.

“The event this year is designed to bring awareness to the impacts of plastic waste on our environment. GreenWorks is spearheading the Plastic Reduction Task Force in Asheville, and the 2019 Award & Trashion show is a fun way to help support these year-round efforts,” says Asheville GreenWorks Executive Director Dawn Chavez.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at http://www.ashevillegreenworks.org/trashion. Ticket prices are $50 GA ($40 for Members) / $75 VIP and go to support GreenWorks’ plastic waste reduction programs.
