Press release from the Heart of Brevard:

Heart of Brevard (HOB) announced today the winners of its Inaugural Downtown Holiday Windows Competition.

30 Downtown businesses spruced up their window displays to compete for bragging rights this holiday season. “The holidays are a beautiful time to stroll the streets of Brevard and support the diverse, local businesses that call Downtown home,” shared Nicole Bentley, Executive Director with the Heart of Brevard, “we wanted help create a festive and inviting experience for locals and visitors, by lighting up the streets and storefronts.”

A panel of local “celebrity” judges scored the window displays based on creativity, theme, best use of recycled materials and incorporation of store merchandise.

The judges include Mary Jo Gordon, Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority; Mayor Jimmy Harris, City of Brevard, Leigh Trapp, Transylvania Times and Joan VanOrman, Transylvania County Arts Council.

“The livened up Downtown holiday window displays make for such an enjoyable walking experience, said Mary Jo Gordon, Marketing and Communications Specialist with Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority, “little touches of magic and cheer truly go a long way. The charm of Downtown Brevard has definitely been enhanced this holiday season.”

Winners will be announced the week after Christmas.

As the sponsoring organization, Heart of Brevard (HOB) did not officially enter the competition but teamed up with The Lucy Clark Gallery and Studio to promote the Think Local Transylvania initiative and to make a special announcement. Heart of Brevard will move to the upstairs office at 53 West Main Street in January, sharing space with The Lucy Clark Gallery and Studio.

“Our organization has been looking for an opportunity to move into the center of town, but did not want to occupy a space that could be best suited for a potential business,” said Bentley, this location allows us to move to the heart of our Downtown district and assist with the expansion of an existing business without occupying valuable street front space.”

“It’s remarkable that Brevard has a nonprofit (HOB) who’s mission and purpose is to make downtown a more vibrant community and that mission is something that is dear to my own aspirations, added Lucy Clark, owner of the Lucy Clark Gallery and Studio, “it is an honor to partner with HOB and expand the vision that I believe in for my gallery and Brevard.”
