Hendersonville Times-News:
Twenty Hendersonville bears found homes Saturday at the 12th annual Bearfootin’ Public Art Walk Auction.
The 2014 class of bears was unveiled in May, and the hand-painted fiberglass pieces spent the summer next to stoplights and restaurants, displaying themes selected by their artists and the nonprofits benefitting from their auction.
Despite their popularity with locals and visitors alike, Saturday was time for the bears to perform their most important function: raise money. Some of the proceeds from this year’s auction — the bear auction raised $35,950 — benefit the city of Hendersonville’s Mainstreet Program, a nationally-recognized effort to preserve and revitalize downtown districts and their architectural heritage. Last year’s profits assisted in the creation of the Mountain Memory fountain, the First Citizens Bank Plaza’s new water feature.
