Jasmine Beach-Ferrara announces campaign for North Carolina’s 11th congressional district

Press release from Jasmine Beach-Ferrara for Congress:

Jasmine Beach-Ferrara announced her bid for Congress this morning, sharing a launch video with supporters on social media. The video tells her story of continually beating the odds and defying conventional wisdom, from getting ordained as a minister, to advocating and winning victories for marriage equality across the Deep South, and then winning a seat on the Buncombe County Commission.

As a commissioner, Jasmine has earned a reputation as a pragmatic problem-solver who knows how to bring people together to deliver results for working families, working to bridge the commission’s partisan divide to help expand access to early childhood education, tackle the opioid epidemic and keep people safe during the pandemic.

An ordained minister, founding Executive Director of the Campaign for Southern Equality (CSE), and two-term Buncombe County commissioner, Jasmine has spent her career upending expectations and successfully organizing for change by engaging with communities that have far too often been written off.

Jasmine is running to take on Congressman Madison Cawthorn, who spent weeks peddling conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, helped incite an insurrection on January 6th and then voted to overturn the election, even after a violent mob stormed the Capitol.

“I’m running because Western North Carolina families deserve better than they’re getting from Madison Cawthorn. My faith teaches me that leadership starts with empathy, compassion, and listening and then getting to work to help people. That’s the kind of leadership I want to offer instead of the division and mean-spiritedness we’re getting now,” said Jasmine. “This is going to be a campaign built on bringing people together, finding common ground, organizing everywhere and talking about the issues that actually matter to people’s lives.”
