Jubilee! Summer Orchestra performs 20th anniversary concert, July 13

The Jubilee! Summer Orchestra, a 50 piece all-volunteer orchestra comprising both amateur and professional musicians from around the WNC Region, will celebrate its 20th Anniversary in 2014.  This season’s concert will be held on Sunday, July 13, at 7:30 pm.  The concert takes place at Jubilee! Community, 46 Wall St, in downtown Asheville.  Tickets are by donation at the door.  Suggested donation is $5, but no one will be turned away.

The 20th Anniversary Concert features JSO founding conductor Earl Hefley as clarinet soloist in a medley of Benny Goodman big-band favorites. Other works on the program include Copland’s Outdoor Overture, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Polonaise from Christmas Eve, and works by Thomas Chapin and Engelbert Humperdinck.  Current JSO director Eric Scheider and Earl Hefley both will conduct.

About the Jubilee! Summer Orchestra: The Jubilee! Summer Orchestra is a 50 piece all-volunteer orchestra comprising both amateur and professional musicians from around the WNC Region.  Founded by Maestro Earl Hefley, the ensemble has been directed since 2007 by conductor, composer, and cellist Eric Scheider.  The ensemble is known for innovative programming, commitment to new music, and captivating performances.  For a listing of recent programs, guest artists, and benefit organizations, click here.   Over the years, many of Asheville’s finest classical and pop artists have appeared in or with the orchestra, from members of the Asheville Symphony to Stephanie Morgan, Free Planet Radio, and the Jonathan Scale Fourchestra.
