Press release from the Edward Buncombe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution:
The Edward Buncombe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented educator Kevin Campbell the chapter’s Outstanding Teacher of American History award. The certificate was presented at the chapter’s April 2024 meeting. In 2017, Mr. Campbell began teaching United States history at Cane Creek Middle School for five years and has recently moved to Global Studies. He has also taught Civic Literacy at T.C. Roberson High School. During the 2020-21 school year he participated in the Modern Classrooms project which presents strategies to improve learning and retention. While completing that mentorship program he created an educational video which will accompany lessons and facilitate self-paced learning. The video was submitted to Khan Academy and was voted among the Top 50 Educator Videos of 2021.
In the summer of 2023, he was selected by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to participate in developing lessons for N.C. teachers of U.S. History and Civics Literacy. These lessons aid in teaching the Holocaust and partnered with the expert staff from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Kevin feels responsible for helping create the next generation of civic-minded and engaged citizens. He highlights the genius and high standards that exist in our founding documents and feels it is effective to illustrate moments in our nation’s history where we fell short of the potential and how we can still edge closer to it.
It is inspiring to read recommendation letters from Cane Creek’s principal, teachers and former students. It is obvious that he has touched many with his enthusiasm for American History. The Edward Buncombe Chapter of DAR is proud to recognize Social Studies Teacher Kevin D. Campbell.
