Living Web Farms hosts black soldier fly production workshop

Press release from Living Web Farms:

LIVING WEB FARMS HOSTS BLACK SOLDIER FLY PRODUCTION WORKSHOP

at Living Web Farms June 7th, 2014 1:30p-7:30p

176 Kimzey Rd. Mills River NC 28759

Worm-bins are almost as ubiquitous as lawn chairs in back yards across the country, but production of the Black Soldier Fly is making waves as a way to efficiently compost organic wastes—up to 25 lbs per day in one colony. Black Soldier Flies present huge possibilities on the home and commercial scale for rapid breakdown of food and animal remnants. They also present a source of high-protein livestock and fish feed, can be used as fertilizer, and can produce useful oils for pharmaceutical and energy use.

June 7th, 2014: Living Web Farms will welcome Karl Warkomski of Protaculture for a daylong, hands-on workshop exploring this amazing insect. Karl will discuss:

  • Reasons to raise Black Soldier Fly
  • BSF life cycle and biology
  • Infrastructure needed
  • Feed stocks and feeding considerations
  • Yields
  • Pitfalls and solutions

PLUS

  • Hands-on creation of BSF egg collectors
  • Hands-on pod establishment for both home and commercial production
  • Pods available for sale on site, or pre-order by emailing Meredith@livingwebfarms.com by June 1st

To register, visit www.LivingWebFarms.org. Registration by donation. $15 suggested, but participants are encouraged to pay what is affordable for them.
