Press release from Pink Dog Creative Gallery:
MARK FLOWERS SOLO EXHIBITION “Signs of Life” Recent Paintings at Pink Dog Creative Gallery.
Asheville, N.C., artist Mark Flowers will have a solo exhibition of his work at Pink Dog Creative Gallery in the River Arts District, Asheville, NC. The exhibit runs from June 2 through July 9 at the Pink Dog Gallery, 348 Depot St. There will be an artist reception on Friday, June 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition is called “Signs of Life” representing his recent works that are narratives that reflect the world around him.In a recent review of his work in the “2017 Made in Paint Exhibition” at the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation, Ashley Norwood Cooper wrote about his work;“Mark Flowers’ linked-together panels have the added-on feeling of old shacks in the North Carolina mountains where he lives. He juxtaposes layered abstractions with images to produce paintings that whisper the secrets of strangers.”
“Formally, it is about physical shape and objective/non-objective imagery existing in the same field. Conceptually, they are telling small stories of insight; visual poetry reflecting the world around me. In recent times, I am feeling a mood shift, both personally and globally. My most recent works attempt to portray that mood”, said Flowers about the works in the upcoming exhibition.
His mixed media works evoke events and observations from his life. His rich panels of enhanced surface and figurative images combine to create a narrative that evokes a storyline to engage the viewer.
Mark was raised in Greenville, S.C., and has been part of the Southeastern art community for over 35 years. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally, and he is in numerous public and private art collections throughout the country. He and his artist wife, Kristy Higby, live in Alexander, N.C., just north of Asheville. They live in a handmade log cabin and work out of a large studio located on the property.
