Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast brings ‘food and fellowship’ to Black Mountain, Feb. 28

Sponsored by the Swannanoa Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Corporation, the annual Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast aims to provide “an opportunity for the interracial community of the area to meet together for food and fellowship.” The event takes place at Camp Dorothy Walls on North Fork road in Black Mountain on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 8 a.m.

Tickets, which include breakfast, a speech by community activist Tyrone Greenlee and music by the Mills Chapel choir, cost $15 for adults and $6 for children. They can be purchased at the Black Mountain Chamber of Commerce or from any board member.

The annual Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Swannanoa Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Corporation will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Camp Dorothy Walls on North Fork Road. Tyrone Greenlee, an Asheville native and community activist, will be the featured speaker. Mr. Greenlee is a graduate of Asheville High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He currently serves on the boards of Just Economics of Western North Carolina and Green Opportunities, and has volunteered for many years with the Building Bridges organization. Tyrone works as a mentor and mediator at the Francine Delany New School for Children, and as Director of Christians For A United Community, a coalition of churches which works to dismantle racism and the disparities caused by racism.

Music will be provided by the Mills Chapel choir.

Ten Thousand Villages at Montreat Conference Center will donate a percentage of its sales on February 28 to the scholarship fund of the MLK organization. Scholarships are available for Swannanoa Valley high school seniors who plan to attend college upon graduation.

Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. Tickets to the breakfast and program are $15 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 – 12. Tickets are available at the Black Mountain Chamber of Commerce or from any board member.
