Monthly Saturday comedy series launches at The Southern Kitchen and Bar

Triangle area comedian Mello Mike headlines the Disclaimer Lounge comedy show at The Southern Kitchen and Bar on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Press release from event organizers:

Disclaimer Lounge presents a special night of comedy, featuring headliner Mello Mike, at the Southern Kitchen and Bar, Saturday, August 1 at 8:00 pm.

Mello Mike comes from the Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill). He has a laid-back witty style with a smooth delivery that keeps crowds in stitches. He’s opened up for such acts as Russell Peters, Dave Chapelle, and Tracey Morgan

Show openers are Blaine Perry and Chaz Scovel.

Local Asheville comic Blaine Perry moved here from New York City, where he spent several years developing his comedy chops. Blaine was the co-host of the comedy duo, “Don’t Touch Me There,” and he recently opened a show for Sara Schaefer.

Chaz Scovel is a Greenville-based comic who has been touring the southeast for several years, performing in shows like The Epic Comedy Hour and the Underwear Comedy Show, and opening for national touring comics including Jake Head, Dave Stone, and Derek Sheen.

The show’s host, Peter Smith-McDowell, has preformed from New York to Miami, to his hometown of Asheville. He has opened up for Rory Scovel, Trevor Noah, Nick Thune, Sean Patton, and Hannibal Burress.

“Our goal is to put on an organic comedy show for the people of Asheville,” Peter says. “We will always showcase local talent, so people can come out to see the great comics our town has produced. Afterwards, we invite people who want to do stand-up to come out to our weekly open mic comedy on Wednesdays, also at The Southern.”

The show is the first in a series of monthly Saturday shows at The Southern. Cary Goff, one of the organizers, says, “We’ll be grabbing professional comics for headliner shows as well as producing showcases of up-and-coming comics.”
The Disclaimer Comedy Lounge is hosted at the Dirty South Lounge, in the Southern Kitchen and Bar, 41 N. Lexington in Downtown Asheville.
