More rain expected today; area still under flood warning

From the National Weather Service, Asheville’s forecast for Friday, July 5:

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers likely between noon and 1pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 77. South wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Meanwhile, the areas around the French Broad are still under a flash flood advisory through Saturday.

TUCKASEGEE RIVER AT BRYSON CITY AFFECTING SWAIN COUNTY.
SOUTH FORK CATAWBA RIVER IN NC AT LOWELL AFFECTING GASTON COUNTY.
PIGEON RIVER IN NC AT CANTON AFFECTING HAYWOOD COUNTY.

HEAVY RAIN MOVING ACROSS THE AREA HAS SATURATED THE GROUND AND CAUSED
RIVER LEVELS TO RISE. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL LIKELY CAUSE THE RIVER
TO CREST JUST BELOW FLOOD STAGE.

THE FLOOD ADVISORY CONTINUES FOR
THE FRENCH BROAD RIVER IN NC AT ASHEVILLE
* UNTIL SATURDAY MORNING.
* AT 1 AM FRIDAY THE STAGE WAS 8.4 FEET.
* BANKFULL STAGE IS 6.5 FEET.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 9.5 FEET.
* FORECAST…THE RIVER WILL RISE TO NEAR 9.4 FEET THIS AFTERNOON.
THE RIVER WILL THEN FALL TONIGHT AND GO BELOW ACTION STAGE
SATURDAY MORNING.
AT 9.5 FEET…FLOOD STAGE…AREAS BETWEEN RIVERSIDE ROAD AND THE
RIVER NEAR LYMAN STREET AND SOUTH OF OLD BURNSVILLE HILL ROAD WILL BE
FLOODED. PARTS OF EMMA ROAD NEAR CRAVEN STREET AND AMBOY ROAD WILL
BE FLOODED.
