Nat Geo Adventurer of the Year Jennifer Pharr Davis hikes N.C.’s Mountains to Sea Trail

Press release from Mast General Store:

ASHEVILLE, NC – North Carolina native Jennifer Pharr Davis and her family are taking part in another adventure of a lifetime. With over 12,000 foot miles on six continents to her credit, Davis is adding another 1,100 to her resume over the next few months to see the length of the great state of North Carolina via the Mountains to Sea Trail (MST). Highland Brewing Company and the Mast General Store are hosting Davis and her family on Tuesday, August 29 at the Highland Brewing Co. for a look at her adventure at an event celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Trail.

The noted athlete, speaker, and author will be sharing her experiences from along the trail. Brew, her husband, is taking care of logistics along the trail, which stretches from the heights of Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the sandy dunes of Jockey’s Ridge along North Carolina’s Outer Banks. He is actively researching the best music venues, restaurants, and beer with the able assistance of their four-year-old daughter, Charley. Gus, the couple’s 10-month-old son, is along for the ride. He’ll be traveling with Mom part of the time, soaking in what nature has to offer, and with Dad and his sister to give his input on plans for the evening.

When asked why she wanted to hike the MST, Davis replied, “I love this state, and there’s no better way to experience it than on foot. I want to encourage a love of the outdoors and to help people experience this amazing hiking trail that’s right outside our back doors.

“I know that I’m just walking and not doing anything life changing,” she continued, “but I hope my walk can symbolize that it doesn’t matter whether you live in mile-high mountains or on the Outer Banks, whether you work in a high rise in Charlotte or on a farm in the Piedmont. Folks are folks, and North Carolina has some of the best folks anywhere. Trails bring us together, and this trail – our trail – can bring out our best.”

Doors open at the Highland Brewing Company, located at 12 Old Charlotte Highway in Asheville at 6 p.m. on August 29. Admission is a donation to the Mountains to Sea Trail. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the evening. Tickets (please consider donations of $10+) are available at www.JPDhikestheMST.org.
