National Novel Writing Month celebrated at the Canton Library

Press release from the Canton Library:

Participate in National Novel Writing Month this November at the Canton Branch Library

Novel writing: you’ve thought about it before. Hey, maybe you’ve even tried it, but you’ve had the same three chapters wasting away at the back of your mind for years and you just can’t seem to make your way back to it. Maybe you’re a professional writer who has seriously started considering tossing your computer out a window. Whatever your situation, National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a great way to clear out the mental cobwebs and tap into your creativity. Every November, writers around the world take to their computers (or pen and paper, for those with excellent hand muscles) and unite in a single purpose: to write a novel of at least 50,000 words in 30 days. Does it sound impossible? Well, maybe, but when you do the math, that averages out to just 1,667 words per day. Completely possible!

For the second year in a row, the Canton Branch Library will be offering itself to local writers as a welcoming and supportive place to write.  The spacious and quiet meeting room will be set aside as often as possible during the month of November for writers who would like to use it, and the couches, tables, and electrical outlets in the main library will be available whenever our doors are open.  Ask for a schedule at the front desk of the Canton Branch Library.

On Friday, Oct. 30, we will be celebrating the start of NaNoWriMo with a drop-in Kickoff Party, where interested writers can pick up a resource packet (also available at the library now through November), decorate their own Do Not Disturb signs or Ideas Notebooks, and relax with some hot chocolate, tea, and cookies from 4-5:30 p.m.

To mark the end of NaNoWriMo, there will be a “The End” Wrap Party celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. with Andy Reed, a member of the local Mountain Writers group. Reed will share his experience editing, rewriting, and publishing, as well as answer questions. Learn how to take your NaNoWriMo manuscript and turn it into something publishable.

Two Canton Branch Library staff members will be participating in National Novel Writing Month – we really hope you’ll join us in the fun! For more information, visit www.nanowrimo.org or call the library at (828) 648-2924.
