Park service can’t repay donated money

North Carolina doesn’t expect to get back the $15,000 it spent last fall to operate part of Great Smoky Mountains National Park for a day, a spokesman for the governor said.

Gov. Pat McCrory teamed with Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam in October to fund the park — a major tourism draw — while the federal government was closed in the wake of the budget impasse over Obamacare.
