Press release from North Carolina Mountain Trail Runners:

The newly-formed North Carolina Mountain Trail Runners (NCMTR)  welcome local trail lovers to participate in its first trail maintenance event on Saturday, March 19. Mountains-to-Sea Trail Maintenance Day is one of several maintenance initiatives organized by the Carolina Mountain Club. Prior trail maintenance experience is NOT required, and the public is invited.
On Saturday, March 19, participants may meet at either the Home Depot in West Asheville (off I-40 Enka Candler on the hill behind McDonalds) or Bent Creek River Park (on Brevard Road across from the NC Arboretum) at 8:30 a.m. to carpool to the maintenance site. Participants will return to their cars by 3 p.m.
This will be an introduction to trail maintenance, and work will be done on one of the sections between the Pisgah Inn and the Folk Art Center. Please wear sturdy boots, bring work gloves,, lunch and plenty of water. The organizers request bringing a hazel hoe, if possible, but tools will be provided.
Local trail runners who are attending the workday are also welcome to participate in an early-morning, guided, trail run beginning at 7 a.m. from Bent Creek River Park.  The run will last approximately an hour. Runners will then change clothes and head off for trail maintenance.
NCMTR was recently organized under the umbrella of the Run828 Foundation. Aaron Saft, foundation president, said “I realized recently that there were no local coalitions advocating for trails that had the voice of runners. Through NCMTR, we hope to create a closer community of trail runners in western North Carolina.”
The mission of the North Carolina Trail Runners (NCMTR) is advocating for our trails, maintaining our trails, and bringing together our trail running community through club events.
