From Mayor Esther Manheimer:
Connectivity is crucial during challenging times, and staying informed helps us all move forward together. That’s why, starting today, we will provide the daily resource guide in Spanish and Ukrainian (see below), ensuring more community members can access the information they need. Water service is slowly being restored—downtown should see service today, and North Asheville tomorrow. Please remember, that this water is not yet safe to drink, but it can be used for flushing toilets. The City has set up water distribution sites at Pack Square Park and Asheville Middle School, with additional Buncombe County and partner sites listed in the resource guide.
Our power restoration efforts are progressing, and many residents have had their power restored. If your neighbors have power and you don’t, Duke Energy asks that you report this by texting OUT to 57801. Staying connected to our neighbors is more than electricity—it’s about the human bonds that keep us resilient. We are also mindful of the bonds many of us share with our pets. For those whose pets or livestock were affected, the Asheville Humane Society, Blue Ridge Humane Society, and other partners have resources for food, medical care, and supplies.
On a personal note, I adopted my rescue dog, Sochi, in 2014. In times like these, he’s been a source of comfort and connection for me, reminding me of the resilience and care that bind us as a community. As we continue to recover, let’s lean on each other and the resources available, knowing that together, we will emerge stronger. Stay safe and connected.
Updates on Water Service Reconnection
Water service is slowly being restored and has reached parts of downtown today, but not throughout downtown. While projected restoration dates give us a goal of having running water in all parts of Asheville soon, we understand that those are estimates and depend on many factors going according to plan, from the weather to the condition of the underground pipes. If you have running water, please remember, that it is not yet safe to drink, but it can be used for flushing toilets. The City has set up water distribution sites at Pack Square Park and Asheville Middle School, with additional Buncombe County and partner sites listed in the resource guide.
