News release from the Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency:
Due to high fire danger, low humidity, and strong gusty winds, the Buncombe County Fire Marshall’s Officehas issued a ban on open burning for all of Buncombe County starting at noon on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
During this ban, there is to be no burning of:
- Yard waste
- Debris
- Land clearing burns
It is never legal to burn anything other than naturally occurring vegetation. This ban does not include fires contained in a pit, barbecue grill, cooking fires, warming fires, or chiminea device smaller than three feet in diameter. Open burning is never allowed within City of Asheville limits.
The burning ban will be in effect until Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 9 a.m. The ban could be extended based on atmospheric conditions at the time of expiration.
